USI President’s update as of 01-02-2023
USI Club Members and Friends:
I want to wish everyone a happy new year as we move into 2023. I am delighted to be able to say that we are in a better financial position today than we were in mid–summer. We have essentially been operating at break even for the past 6 months while improving our cash position. We need to continue to do everything possible to improve our earnings. We are now renting classroom and bay space to commercial, LEO and Military training. There is increasing activity, particularly with the opening of CCW permits. We are also encouraging the member clubs to expand and host their own events. Several new shoots have been added and I encourage anyone that has an interest to promote creation of new activities. For example, USI will be hosting the NSSA US Open tournament in the spring and will be the only California location.
The new dividing fence at the RP range has dramatically reduced the turnaround between sessions. I encourage you to try this range and bring your friends. We are looking hard at ways to fund the replacement of the side fences at the MPR range and some other long deferred but important repairs. I am hopeful that we will find a way to accomplish this soon. My sincerest thanks also go to so many that are giving so generously of their time to improve the options and conditions of USI. The board, Dennis Winslow, Mike McIntosh, Tom Heath, Ron McCurry and Chris Lawrence have been completely supportive of the improvements. So many others are also doing so much every week, Tom Heath, Steve Balma, Ed Mena and others at 5–stand, Tom Fester, Jonathan Marquez, Eric Jewel, and Doc Dushkin at trap and skeet. Thanks too to the many airgun and .22 RSOs and shooters at MPR, and of course the great group of volunteer RSOs at the AP and public ranges. This simply wouldn’t work without all of you. Great thanks to Bruce Brandt for all his work on the Volunteer RSO program and promoting USI. Want to help? Email: volunteer@unitedsportsmen.com.
As always, please contact me directly with any questions or offer to help keep our club alive and healthy.
